Science Museum Group, tasked us as main contractor with the for the remedial work to existing metal seam roof system including liquid cut edge corrosion repairs, liquid applied roof covering and liquid gutter system along with underground drainage repairs.
Scope of works
The works consisted of erection of a scaffold to all elevations, cleaning down and removing all flaking existing paintwork to the 5000m2 roof, carrying out any repairs and then coating with a Giromax system. We also installed a new plygene gutter system to approx. 750m of existing gutter.
To the external cladding walls approx. 4500m2we cleaned down making sure none of the paint was removed during the process.
The drainage works consisted of carrying out remedials to approx. 250m of drainage including installing new manholes.
Key challenges and outcome
Managing the works whilst working in an area of high winds and very inclement weather was the main issue requiring us to monitor the safety of the works at height closely and to keeping on programme during those times of bad weather.
In addition, there were approx. £150k of extra works added to the works which needed to be managed with the works.
